TruMath is used mostly by teenagers and paid for mostly by their parents. That makes privacy something we take seriously rather than something we paper over. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The short version: we collect the minimum we need to teach you. We do not sell your information. We market TruMath to students and parents — but we never show other companies’ ads inside your classes, and we never use what you do while learning to target advertising at you.

This policy covers trumath.ca and learn.trumath.ca. It does not cover other websites we link to, which have their own policies.
We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its ten fair information principles.

2. What we collect
When you create an account. First name, last name, email address, and a password (stored hashed — we cannot see it). If you sign in with Google, Facebook, LinkedIn or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that service; we never receive your password for it.
When you buy something. Billing name and email, the amount, the date, the product, and your invoice history. Your card details go directly to Stripe, our payment provider — we never see or store your full card number. We see the last four digits, the card type, and whether the payment succeeded.
About a student, where a parent holds the account. If a parent or guardian sets up the account for a student, we may collect the student’s first name and grade so we know which course to give them and how to address them.
As you learn. Which classes you have watched and how far through, quiz and test results, assignment activity, completion progress, and when you last signed in.
Automatically. IP address, browser and device type, operating system, approximate location derived from your IP address, referring page, pages visited, and the dates and times of visits.
When you contact us. Anything in an email or message you send us, and our reply.
We do not collect precise GPS location, biometric information, health information, financial information beyond what is needed to take payment, government identifiers, information about your race, religion, or political views, or anything else we do not need to run the service. We do not ask for any of it, and please do not send it to us.
3. Why we use it, and on what basis
We collect and use personal information only for the purposes below. If we ever want to use it for a new purpose, we will tell you and ask first.
We use learning progress to teach better — if many students rewatch one lesson, the explanation needs work. We look at patterns across students, not at profiles of individuals.
We do not make automated decisions about you that have a legal or similarly significant effect. No algorithm decides your access, your price, or your result.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade it.

About advertising. We advertise TruMath to students and to parents — that is how people find us. What we do not do is turn your learning into advertising material. Specifically:
Artificial intelligence. We use AI tools to help us prepare and edit our own course material — outlines, subtitles, and draft text. Those tools work on our content, not on yours. We do not send your personal information or your learning data to an AI service, and we do not allow anyone to use it to train an AI model. If we ever add an AI feature that students interact with directly, we will update this page and tell you what it does before you use it.
4. Consent
We collect and use your information with your knowledge and consent, given when you accept our Terms of Use at sign-up and when you make a purchase. For some things — keeping payment records for tax purposes, or investigating fraud — the law permits or requires us to hold information regardless.
Where the student is under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to our Terms of Use and to the student’s use of TruMath, and payment must be made by an adult. A parent or guardian may review, correct, or ask us to delete their child’s information at any time by emailing us.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by closing your account and emailing us. Withdrawing consent means we can no longer provide the service to you, and some records we must keep — see section 8.

5. Testimonials and student names
We sometimes share what students have achieved. We never publish a student’s name, photograph, video, voice, or results without the explicit written permission of that student if they are an adult, or of their parent or guardian if they are not. Permission is specific to what we asked about, and you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us — we will remove the material from our own sites promptly, though we cannot always remove copies already shared elsewhere.
6. Who else sees your information
We use a small number of service providers to run TruMath. They only get the information they need to do their job, they are bound by contract to protect it, and they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
That is the whole list. We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics service. We do not use advertising platforms, pixels, or trackers. We do not use a live-chat or pop-up service. If that changes, we will update this page before the new service goes live.
We remain responsible for personal information transferred to these providers.
We may also disclose personal information:

7. Where your information is stored
Some of your information is stored outside Canada. Our course platform (LearnWorlds) and our payment provider (Stripe) operate servers in the European Union and the United States.
This matters because information stored in another country can be accessed by the courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities of that country under its own laws, and our contracts cannot override that. We tell you this so you can make an informed choice; by using TruMath you agree to your information being handled this way.

8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires.
If you ask us to delete your information, we will do it within 30 days and confirm in writing, apart from records we are legally required to keep. Deletion is permanent — your progress cannot be recovered afterwards.
We may keep information that has been anonymised, so that it no longer identifies anyone, for as long as it is useful.

9. How we protect it
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach ever created a real risk of significant harm to you, we would notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as feasible, as PIPEDA requires, tell you what happened and what information was involved, and explain what you can do to reduce the risk.
10. Your rights
You can ask us to:
Email info@trumath.ca. We will respond within 30 days, free of charge in ordinary cases. If a request would take an unusual amount of work, we will tell you the cost before doing it, and you can withdraw the request.
We may need to confirm your identity first, so we are not handing a student’s information to the wrong person. In limited cases the law lets us decline a request — for example, where releasing information would reveal personal information about someone else, or would compromise an investigation. If we decline, we will tell you why and what you can do next.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request or a complaint, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — priv.gc.ca, 1-800-282-1376. You do not need our permission to do that.

11. Emails from us
We do not currently send marketing emails.
You will receive service emails — invoices, password resets, course announcements — because they come with your account. These continue while your account is open.
If we start sending marketing emails, we will ask you to opt in first, every message will carry an unsubscribe link that works within 10 business days and our name and address at the bottom, as Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation requires, and unsubscribing will never affect your service emails.

12. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies. What they are, which ones we use, and how to control them is set out in our Cookie Policy.
13. Other websites
Our sites link to and embed material from other services. Once you follow a link or play an embedded video, that service’s own privacy policy applies, not ours. We are not responsible for how they handle your information, and we encourage you to read their policies.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top tells you when we last did, and we keep the previous version available on request.
If we make a significant change — a new purpose, a new service provider that sees personal information, or a change to how long we keep things — we will update this page before the change takes effect and email registered account holders. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated policy.
